How to Put Small Business Out of Business

I just read a bit of legislation signed by Governor Brown of California called the Affiliate Nexus Tax Law. This law forces any out-0f-state company that has affiliates or a physical presence or uses a fulfillment house in California to collect California sales tax on all sales to California residents.

Essentially, every major company has dropped their California affiliates and are moving their fulfillment out of state to avoid the hefty tax penalties. I wonder if Governor Brown thought about all the lost tax income the state would incur when all 25,000+ affiliates no longer made any income from affiliate marketing. Did they really think that the giants like Amazon, Ebay and Google were going to be okay with collecting sales tax on every single sale?

This is one of the worst pieces of legislation I’ve ever seen. We are in a depressed economy and the Governor decides to sign a bill that will:

  • Add more bureaucracy;
  • Attempt to take more money out of the hands of the people in the form of taxes and put more money in the hands of inept politicians. California is notorious for the mishandling of tax revenues and for ridiculous waste.
  • Take away the income potential for tens of thousands of residents who earn full-time or part-time incomes as affiliates essentially eliminating more tax revenue from the state;
  • Force companies to not do business with any fulfillment house, shipping center or reseller in the state of California costing business owners potential millions in sales;
  • Cause residents and businesses to move out of state;
  • Cost business thousands in accounting and programming fees as they scramble to figure out (1) How to collect Ca sales tax; (2) reprogram their shopping carts; (3) pay a bookkeeper and/or accountant to manage California sales tax collections and payments.

This bill obviously was not carefully thought-out. There is a HUGE downside to mandating out-of-state companies to pay sales tax across state lines.

Here’s a comment from AffiliateTips.com: This has been a huge hit to me. I make a lot of money from Amazon and this has had a huge impact on my income and now I must seek out other options. I’ve also had at least ten other affiliates close my accounts. Another hit for California residents… unbelievable! – Candice.

Why I’m Personally Endorsing the Elevation Group

elevation

Kiyosaki have openly endorsed home based business as a path for the average person to achieve greater financial success. The Age of the Entrepreneur has arrived and it is imperative that we grab the bull by the horns and take all out massive action.

At the same time, we are now witnessing the greatest transfer of wealth I’ve ever seen. Inflation is a beast, taxes are higher and the “powers that be” seem to be collecting more and more of the available cash. The Forbes 400 got richer over the past few years while most people found themselves at a tremendous loss.

Why is that? Because those who produce and sell earn more while those who consume and spend lose. The media is constantly barraging us with incentives to Buy! Buy! Buy! I recently read an article that stated there was evidence of economic growth because consumer debt was up! Can you believe it??? Basically because the average Joe has less money and more debt and is even more enslaved to the banks, that’s the “evidence” that the economy is growing? Seems a bit backwards to me.

The reality is that most of the folks who are suffering now are simply at the effect of their own ignorance. Now, I don’t mean that as an insult in any way, shape or form. The fact is that almost noone is ever given any valuable, relevant or usable financial education. People are asked to make financial decisions every day without an understanding of the basics of finance: interest rates, compounding interest, etc. When the average person walks into Best Buy to buy a TV on sale with their credit card, they don’t realize that over time they’ll be paying far more for that TV than it was ever worth. If they took the money and invested it wisely, they could buy the TV with the cash they earned from their investments.

This is why I’m personally endorsing Mike Dillard’s Elevation Group. For years I’ve been teaching people how to earn money working from home. I specialize in teaching folks how to achieve $100,000+ per year in online business and network marketing. And, I’m damn good at it. But that’s only half the puzzle.

The other half is what to do with the money when you make it to gain security for you and your family. If a person is just spending every dime they make, which is very easy to do, then they end up always having to work. The smart thing to do is to leverage the income to produce more income and to get your money working for you instead of you working for it. With EVG you get access to the same strategies the ultra-wealthy are using to grow their portfolios.

The Elevation Group provides the most relevant, easily accessible financial education from proven experts. Financial education is the most important education any of us can have and here is where I recommend getting it.

I’ve learned a tremendous amount from Mike over the years. He’s been one of my mentors and I’m excited that he’s taken the time to launch this very much needed community. You can learn more about EVG here: http://www.theelevationgroup.net/capture.php?a_aid=c40d63ca&a_bid=e6b01db8

Leverage: The Key to Prospering

I just finished a new video that details the power of leverage. In less than 24 hours it already have more than 500 views on YouTube…that’s how important this is:

Out of the Ordinary…How a Simple Road Trip Can Be So Refreshing

I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by amazing friends. A few weeks ago, my friends Amy Grant and Heather Braxton, threw a surprise baby shower for me. It was a total blast. This weekend my friends Denise Diggs and Lynette Mix are throwing another shower for me today in California.

So, John and I decided to drive up and spend the day in San Diego before heading over to Riverside for my shower. Just sitting in the car (a Kia mini-van – not so comfortable…have it since my Range Rover is being fixed from a big boo-boo I gave it at the gas station: ooops!) was very relaxing. John and I got to connect and talk and enjoy our time together looking at the incredibly diverse terrain you cross going west on the 8 from AZ to CA.

We got to San Diego around 6, checked into the Westin GasLamp (love this place!) and then explored the Gas Lamp District. We walked hand-in-hand to the convention center and back round 4th, 5th and 6th, eventually stopping for a much craved (at 8 1/2 months pregnant) Italian dinner at Chianti’s Restaurant. The food was incredible! Kudos to the chef.

It was so relaxing…no computers, no phones, just the two of us out for a stroll talking about our life and our impending changing life when Trinity arrives.

We passed on dessert to wander around town some more and found a great specialty cigar/cafe/dessert bar on Market and 3rd. We enjoyed some spectacular gelato and John had a nice Americano. The summer breeze was fresh and the evening was perfect.

It’s trips like these, out of the ordinary, that are so refreshing and revitalizing. It’s a great time to explore and enjoy and to really get the most out of life.

Duplication in Home-Based Business…What Does It Take???

The key to achieving leverage (working less and earning more) is fostering duplication in your down-line. If you can sell, are consistent and are able recruit efficiently you can grow your business. The benefit of home-based business (direct sales, MLM, etc) is that you can create leverage, essentially duplicating your own efforts to increase your income and cash flow.

Duplication is essential for any leader who wants long term success. One of the greatest joys is seeing the members you’ve enrolled achieving their goals and the success they desire. The more success your team as, the more momentum you’ll all experience…it makes for a great environment in which everyone can thrive. With our most recent venture, GiveOpp, John and I have developed an incredible team of leaders that is experiencing massive duplication…before launch!

So, what does it take?

First, it takes having the confidence and belief of a leader. Duplication starts with you. The old adage of “If it’s to be, its up to me” truly applies here. The more focused, enthusiastic and confident you are in your goals and your ability to achieve them with your opportunity, the greater the response from your team. When working with groups, it’s easy to get discouraged by people who are off-track, frustrated or complaining. But, if you keep your own head clear and your eye on your goal, the great the result and experience will be for everyone.

Second, there must be a duplicable system. Most companies fail to provide their members with useful marketing resources that give people a strong start. Keep in mind that most of the folks who get started with you will not have sales or marketing experience, so the easier you make it for them to follow a step-by-step system, the greater their success will be. Just telling them to get out there and talk to their friends and family is a guaranteed “bomb”. Most of their friends and family are going to tell them they are “nuts” to get started in “something like that”. But, if you give people excellent print, online and offline marketing materials with some training in how to use them, they’ll be off and running quickly. If the systems are complicated or new members are left to flounder in their own confusion or frustration, it will become like a virus that stops your momentum. Make it simple and easy for new folks.

Third, choose to work with the right people. John and I have built very successful teams. Our team was cohesive, confident and supportive of each other. We did not sign up everyone and sometimes turned folks away who wanted to get started with us because their attitude and energy was not a good fit. While that sale would have provided some immediate gratification, adding certain people to our team would have brought more headaches that benefits. So, target your marketing and choose your team members wisely.

Lastly, build momentum! It’s your “job” as the leader of your organization to keep the tone of the group enthusiastic and excited. Be sure to do lots of promotion. When someone has a great result, let everyone know. When your team approaches 50 or more members, do a team call (you may have your team on your upline’s call prior to that because starting a team call with too few members can, in itself, be a bomb) that let’s everyone jump out and talk about their success, announce new members, etc. If your company does regional or national training events, plan a time for your team to get together…spend a few bucks on food and drinks, the rewards are well worth it. The more you promote your team and it’s members, the greater the success will be.

Employ these strategies, take full responsibility for your organization and down line and keep the energy flowing high…this is the path to massive duplication.

Generating High Quality Leads for a Home-Based Business

I remember when I first got started working from home. I was so excited! My husband John and I would be working together and our goals were to make $20,000 a month within our first 90 days so we could quit our jobs and get John a new car.

The enthusiasm quickly waned as we struggled to generate enough quality leads to launch our business. We were already members of the NFL (No Friends Left) so friends and family really weren’t an option for us. So, we had to go “cold market”. Our advisor told us how to do flyers and newspaper ads and that was working ok. We ramped it up and with just flyers and newspaper ads, we were able to achieve our goal of $20K in a single month our third month in.

But, it was A LOT of work. Flyering cars requires a determined mindset and much perseverance (particularly when you’re doing it in 105 degree weather!). So, we wanted a faster, easier way.

And that began our journey into online marketing. Online marketing can be incredibly confusing and frustrating when you don’t know what you’re doing…it can also be very expensive! But, the rewards are great once your systems and ads are dialed in. It takes some diligence to track your results and optimize your campaigns, but over time, you will find that it gets easier to get good quality leads for a great price.

The key is to really educate yourself, put the education into action, track the results and modify the campaigns until they are fully optimized and you are getting a great result.

More on lead generation to come :)
